Privacy and cookies on Hodder Plus

Hodder Plus registration and login

Registration : Cookie is set by the .Net Membership API, not explicitly in code.Web.config defines the Authentication cookie as of type Forms.

Login : Cookie is set by the .Net Membership API.

Logout : The current user cookie is taken from the last HTTP Request, and has the following modifications:

  • Path is cleared
  • Expiration set to 10 years in the past

The cookie is then returned in the next HTTP Response stream where it should expire on the end-users machine.

Remember Me :This is set by default in the Web.config to be true, meaning that a cookie will persist on the end-users machine.  This cookie does not grant access to the library, it only serves to auto-complete the end-users registration details when they return to the site.  Their browser will most probably also store this information by default as well, however it is the end-users responsibility to manage this option.

ASP login

Cookie name: ASPSESSIONIDQSTQBSQD

Some of the sites on Hodder Plus use ASP Session Object to log you in. The cookie is sent to the user's computer and it contains information that identifies the user. This interface is called the Session object. The Session object stores information about, or change settings for a user session.

Variables stored in a Session object hold information about one single user, and are available to all pages in one application. The server creates a new Session object for each new user, and destroys the Session object when the session expires.

Cookie name: Pasos, Teachyourselfextra, Contatti

The Pasos, Contatti and Teachyourselfextra sites store a cookie on you machine which allow you access after registration without having to log in.
